Why do WiNUK host WiNUK Awards?

We want to change the narrative.

WiNUK Awards aims to highlight historically underrecognised female-identifying leaders and rising stars, to increase their visibility for funding, hiring and promotion, and inspire others, towards balancing representation in neuroscience leadership.

Additionally, we aim to reward people of any gender identity who have made significant positive contributions to the neuroscience community. This could be through sex/gender research in neurological health, mentorship, science communication, championing diversity in STEM, and/or volunteering for WiNUK.

These activities, often led by women and other minoritised identities, provide significant benefits to neuroscience workplaces and society, but continue to be undervalued: reduced to ‘soft skills’ and overlooked in recruitment and promotion.
